All fruits and vegetables need to be treated with an anti-bacterial wash, especially when picking them up from the store. However, eating at restaurants in typically safe as they know to treat them.
Is the Yucatan/Hacienda safe?
Yucatecos are gentle, respectful people. The City of Merida is considered one of the safest cities in Mexico and is untouched by the violence in the northern part of the country. The attractions and villages surrounding the city are very welcoming and we highly encourage some exploration while you are visiting. Both the Lyons and the Bergers (Hacienda owners) have been coming for years without any issues!
The Hacienda is located in a small village 40 minutes from downtown Merida. The villages main residents are local Mayan families that have lived there for generations, many of which are employed by the property. Situated behind a gate with cameras, it’s very protected and safe.
